Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia is a condition that belongs to a group of mental health disorders referred to as psychotic disorders.   The hallmark of psychotic disorders is characterized by people losing touch with reality and having abnormal thinking and perceptions.

Two main symptoms are delusions and hallucinations.  Delusions are false beliefs the person has that do not change even if they are given new ideas or facts that contradict what they believe. People who have delusions often have problems with concentration, confused thinking, or the sense that their thoughts are blocked.   Hallucinations occur when a person hears voices, sees things, or smells scents others cannot perceive.
